#Bible: In the beginning, the earth was formless and empty and darkness was over the surface of the deep” (Genesis 1:2). On the first day of creation, God brought forth the light.

God said “Let there be Light,” and there was light

At the inception of every business, it starts with an idea that is formless with so many imaginations of possibilities and impossibilities. And that’s okay when you can’t figure out everything that the business is going to be.

However, your first task is to bring in the light before any other thing can be done. God clearly showed us at the beginning of creation in the book of Genesis —He said let there be light.

What does light mean?

In layman, light means anything that makes something visible. While in business light simply means vision.

You must have heard about vision so many times, yes you should because it’s very important in business.

As a Christian entrepreneur, you need a clear vision of what you want to do. That means you should be able to visualize what the business is about and bring light to the imaginations.

Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”

Why Vision?

Vision pictures the end goal in mind. It sets the pace for your business, simply writing it down is a good start.

Ask yourself, “how do I want this business to be in 5+ years time ceteris paribus (all other things being equal)?”

Bear in mind, at this point you may not have figured out what it takes to achieve your vision. However, you need the light or vision to see and energize you to start and keep going.

When God called Moses in the book of Exodus, He started by giving Moses the vision. He said;

“So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey..”

Exodus 3:8

Yes! God knew there was going to be tough times ahead when He gave Moses the vision —taking the Israelites out of Egypt into a land of milk and honey.

He definitely knew there was darkness along the path. Moreover, He wanted Moses to focus on the vision (light) to steer him through the dark.

In the same way. Your vision keeps you and your team focused on the mission even when you don’t have everything sorted out.

What is Mission then?

Mission is simply the purpose of your business, which can be derived from your vision.

Moses’ mission was to lead the Israelites through the wilderness to the promised land which can simply be derived from the vision God gave him.

This is why it’s so important to start with a clear vision to lead the direction for your business plan. A good business plan must include; vision, mission, and goals.

In another view, light in business can be seen as what is known that you could start working on whereas darkness can be viewed as the unknown solution to challenges or roadblocks you may encounter along the way.

So when you bother about the dark you may be discouraged to start, it is important to discipline yourself to focus on the light while navigating through the dark.

The question you might ask yourself is;

“How do I create the light(vision) in my business? you may wonder if you could just say it and it would come to exist just as God did. You could try anyway;

But not to worry, we ‘ve got you covered here, there are links to resources below that will help you through the process.

Takeaway: To determine your vision is the first thing you do to start any business or project. Your vision should be inspiring, engaging, and clear to set the course of your mission and business plan.

The next step is to modify your light.
