#Bible: Moses emphasized on building a Godly culture to the Israelites in the book of Deuteronomy.

So, it was important for them to have a distinct culture from other pagan nations.

Moses told the Israelites “When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations”.

Deuteronomy 18:9

Do you want to build a business based on biblical principles that standouts from others? Therefore you need to set your organizational culture early on.

Culture is also defined as acceptable values, beliefs, and behavior among a group of people. So what might be acceptable in one organization might not be acceptable in another. Therefore, it’s so important to build the type of culture you want for your business.

As you begin to hire people to join your organization, your culture would serve as a guide in your hiring decision because you need employees that are culture-fit.

Values and beliefs are the building blocks of culture. So, the question is;

What are your values and beliefs based on?

For the Israelites, their values and beliefs were given by Moses as instructed by God. Over time, the Israelites cultural practice was formed from their values and beliefs.

Therefore, this means as the leader of your business, you have to be the one to choose the values you want your team to uphold.

When choosing your values, you should be very detailed about what is expected of your employees. In the same vein, God was detailed on what He expected from the Israelites.

He instructed Moses to write it down for future reference as written in Deuteronomy;

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”

Deuteronomy 31:24

“We are what we repeatedly do” according to Aristotle. So, there is nothing formed overnight aside from the ‘creation story‘.

It also takes patience and consistency to build the ideal cultural behaviour for your team. This is why you begin when you still have a small team so that new members joining the team could learn abruptly.
